Premiers Commit to 20% Increase in Efficiency
On July 18th, Canada’s Premiers committed to achieving “a 20% increase in energy efficiency by 2020 in their respective jurisdictions”. They specified a five point plan for achieving this:

  • Enhance the Model National Energy Code for Buildings by 25% by 2011;
  • Add energy efficiency as the fifth core objective into the National Building Code of Canada;
  • Increase the numbers of energy-using products covered by the minimum energy performance standards;
  • Adopt green building policies for new construction of government-funded facilities, including sustainable procurement guidelines for energy and water use; and,
  • Implement a public or private mechanism in each jurisdiction so that individual home-owners have access to energy efficiency home audits and assistance with energy efficiency retrofits.
  • More...

The AEEA Becomes a Society

In September 2007, the Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance filed an application to become a registered not-for-profit society within Alberta. This officially kicks-off the AEEA as a fully fledged organization working to advance energy efficiency within the province.

The interim board members have already committed significant time to getting the AEEA off the ground, and are in the midst of our first recruitment drive. If you or anyone you know works in an area related to energy efficiency, please consider joining [/membership] the Alliance and support “an inclusive and diverse forum for communication, collaborative problem solving, coordinated action and a common voice” for energy efficiency in Alberta.
