AEEA is proud to showcase the City of Calgary’s leadership in sustainable buildings with the support of AEEA Retrofit Vendors.

The City of Calgary is taking a bold step towards sustainability with the Prairie Sky Administration Building at the Prairie Sky Cemetery. The building is designed to be fully electrified and produces renewable solar energy onsite, achieving net-zero emissions in operation. This aligns with The City’s ambitious goal to be a net-zero and climate-resilient city by 2050.

Key features of the building include:

·       High-performance building envelope: enhanced insulation and airtightness minimize energy loss.

·       Ground-source heat pump systems: provide efficient heating, cooling and hot water solutions.

·       Renewable energy integration: roof-mounted solar PV panels generate on-site electricity.

·       Energy-efficient fixtures and appliances: LED lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures and Energy Star certified equipment.

·       Future-proofing: rough-ins for electric vehicle charging stations.

This innovative design not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also sets a precedent for future municipal projects, demonstrating Calgary’s commitment to a sustainable and resilient future.

Construction is expected to begin in Q3 of 2025 and be completed in Q3 2026.
