Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance Privacy Policy
Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance is incorporated under the Alberta Societies Act. This policy is written to comply with the applicable portions of the Alberta Personal Information Privacy Act (PIPA) and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). These Acts set the ground rules for how organizations collect, use, and disclose personal information.
Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance also adheres to the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), which protects consumers and businesses from the misuse of digital technology, including spam and other electronic threats.

Your Privacy Rights
Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance is committed to protecting the privacy of our contributors, employees, volunteers, partners, grant applicants, grantees, suppliers and other stakeholders. We strive to protect the confidentiality of any personal information that you give us online, in a telephone conversation, in person, or on a completed printed form. This includes any information that identifies you or provides a method by which your identity could be deduced.
Collection of Personal Information and Your Consent
Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance collects information only by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonably intrusive way. In some circumstances, you may be asked if you wish to subscribe to one of our informative, free electronic newsletters. In these cases, you are notified and given the option of being added to our electronic newsletter list or not. You can unsubscribe at any time using the instructions provided in every issue.
If you have participated in a workshop you may be sent information regarding upcoming events or opportunities that we believe would be of interest to you. If you prefer not to be contacted in the future, you can ask us to remove your name.
Types of Personal Information Collected
Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance may collect personal information as required for the administration of our programs or services through electronic forms, email, phone, mail or in person. The types of information we collect may include:
- Your name, home address, and home telephone and/or cell phone numbers;
- Emergency contact information;
- Your email address;
- Your place of employment, job title, business address and/or business phone number;
- Credit card information and/or banking information.
Purpose of Collecting Personal Information
Your personal information is collected for one or more of the following purposes:
- to carry out transactions such as a registration for an event;
- to provide you with a response to a question you have posed via one of our contact us email response links;
- to gather your feedback on any of our programs;
- to send you information about our program work through one of our electronic newsletters.
Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance does not sell, share, barter, rent, divulge or otherwise disseminate personal information.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites

Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance monitors website traffic patterns, site usage, and related site information in order to optimize our web services.
