GlasCurtain Inc

About

GlasCurtain manufactures fibreglass-framed, stick-built curtain wall systems engineered to reduce both operational and embodied carbon in commercial and institutional buildings. Designed and fabricated in Canada, our systems offer a direct replacement for aluminum-framed curtain wall assemblies in retrofit applications, with significantly improved thermal performance, condensation resistance, and long-term durability.

Fibreglass has a thermal conductivity nearly 500 times lower than aluminum, significantly reducing thermal bridging at the frame. In retrofit applications, this results in improved thermal continuity, reduced heat loss, and better overall building performance. Because fibreglass expands and contracts minimally with temperature changes, our systems maintain consistent air and water tightness over time—reducing the risk of seal degradation, infiltration, and condensation. Paired with high-performance glazing, GlasCurtain systems enable envelope upgrades that align with stringent energy and carbon standards, including Passive House, LEED, and Zero Carbon Building certifications.

We offer a full suite of systems to meet varying retrofit needs. Thermaframe 4 delivers R4 thermal performance with double glazing and 40% lower embodied carbon than comparable aluminum systems. Thermaframe 7 and Thermaframe 8 accommodate triple glazing, with Thermaframe 8 also supporting vacuum insulated glass (VIG) for centre-of-glass performance up to R15. Thermaframe 9 PH is the only curtain wall in the world certified by the Passive House Institute for Cold Climate performance (R9 overall), making it ideal for deep energy retrofits and Net-Zero projects.

Highlights

• Passive House Certification: Thermaframe 9 PH is the only curtain wall system in the world certified by the Passive House Institute for Cold Climate performance (U = 0.60 W/m²·K, R9).
• First CAN/ULC‑S134-Certified Fibreglass Curtain Wall: GlasCurtain was the first in Canada to achieve this non-combustibility certification for fibreglass curtain wall assemblies.
• Low Embodied Carbon: Third-party life cycle assessment confirms up to 60% lower embodied carbon than aluminum systems — supporting emissions reductions from the outset.
• Validated Condensation Resistance: Lab-tested results show systems remain above the dew point at 50% RH at -18°C, and at 35% RH at -30°C—preserving envelope integrity in high-humidity, cold-climate environments like hospitals and aquatic centres.
• North America’s First VIG Curtain Wall: Thermaframe 8 integrates triple-glazed vacuum insulated glass (VIG) for centre-of-glass performance up to R15 — delivering a 50% improvement over standard triple glazing.
• Domestic Supply Chain: All major components are sourced and fabricated in Canada — reducing transportation emissions and ensuring tariff resilience.
• Long-Term Airtightness and Durability: Low thermal movement reduces stress on joints and sealants, helping maintain air and water tightness while lowering maintenance needs over time.
• Proven Retrofit Impact: GlasCurtain systems help retrofit projects cut embodied carbon by up to 60% and improve operational performance—avoiding significant CO₂e over the envelope’s lifespan.
• Award-Winning Performance: Used on multiple high-performance projects targeting Net-Zero Energy and Passive House standards.
