Peak Rewards Pilot for Smart Thermostats
Empower Your Thermostat. Support Alberta’s Grid.
Join Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance’s Peak Rewards Pilot for Smart Thermostats and get rewarded for helping reduce electricity demand on Alberta’s hottest and coldest days by enroling your existing smart thermostat. On peak demand days, your smart thermostats’ setpoint will be adjusted by a few degrees to reduce electricity consumption associated with your home’s cooling or heating system. In return, you’ll help manage demands on the grid and earn $50 when you join the pilot and up to $25 annually for participating.
How it Works
Simple actions make a big difference for Alberta’s grid. Here’s how the pilot works:
Step 1
Enroll your smart thermostat
If you’re a qualifying EPCOR service territory with central AC or heat pump and an eligible smart thermostat, you can apply in minutes. Once approved, your thermostat connects securely to our platform for automated scheduling during peak days.
Step 2
Receive notifications before events
You’ll get advance notice before a demand response event begins. Notifications come through your thermostat app or email when an event is in progress.
Step 3
Smart adjustments, minimal impact
Your thermostat makes small temporary adjustments, like pre‑cooling or pre-heating your home prior to an event, to reduce demand during peak times . You can opt out at anytime by adjusting your thermostat manually.
Stay comfortable. Stay in control. Make a real impact.
