Electrification retrofit

AEEA is pleased to repost this LinkedIn post from AEEA Retrofit Vendor First Light.
At PwC Place in downtown Vancouver, Cadillac Fairview partnered with FirstLight to fully electrify the building’s space heating and domestic hot water systems. The project replaced an aging cooling-only plant with modular air-source heat pumps, optimized the hydronic distribution network, and implemented advanced sequences of operation to maximize efficiency and performance.
The Impact:
🌿 ~90% GHG reduction (17.9 to ~2 kgCO₂e/m²)
🏭 ~412 tonnes of CO₂e avoided every year
📉 Total energy use intensity reduced from 188.5 to 158 kWh/m²
🌇 The building remained fully occupied and operational throughout construction
The new plant was also designed with potential to support future decarbonization of surrounding Cadillac Fairview properties.
