Dillon Consulting Ltd.

About

Dillon Consulting is a proudly Canadian, employee-owned firm founded in 1946. With over 1,100 employees and a strong presence in Calgary and Edmonton, we specialize in guiding large building owners through complex retrofit and energy transition work. In 2023, we acquired IESC — a leading integrated energy management and building sciences firm — significantly expanding our Energy Solutions capabilities.

For retrofit clients, we bring a performance-first approach built around four core strengths.

  • Integrated, Multi-Disciplinary Solutions: We bridge the gap between architecture, building sciences, and mechanical/electrical engineering. This ensures that building envelope upgrades work in perfect harmony with HVAC and smart control overhauls, preventing the “siloed” mistakes that plague complex retrofits.
  • Data-Driven Financial Rigor: We do not just provide a list of repairs; we provide a defensible financial roadmap. We utilize established methodologies like ASTM E917-compliant Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) and Uniformat II to develop detailed Total Cost of Ownership profiles. We factor in energy escalation, carbon pricing, and maintenance burdens so your capital planning is audit-proof.
  • Funding & Grant Optimization: Retrofits must make financial sense. Our teams align our audits and energy modeling with stringent provincial and federal guidelines—such as the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC)—to ensure your projects maximize eligibility for future funding and implementation grants.
  • End-to-End Execution: From calibrated hourly energy models (using DesignBuilder/EnergyPlus) and ASHRAE Level 2/3 audits to construction oversight and final commissioning, we provide a seamless transition. Our goal is to minimize operational downtime while transforming legacy infrastructure into high-performing, climate-resilient assets.

Highlights

Dillon helps municipalities, public facilities, and commercial clients cut GHG emissions through data-driven energy strategies. We lead by example — committed to SBTi targets of 30% Scope 1, 2, and 3 reductions by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050. Our Energy Transition team includes P.Eng., CEM, CMVP, EP, LEED AP, and CBCP credentials.

  • Deep Retrofit & Net-Zero Planning — City of Brooks, AB
ASHRAE Level II audits and Net-Zero pathway planning for two major facilities identified annual reductions of 14,707 GJ of natural gas, 969,835 kWh of electricity, and over 763,000 kgCO₂e in emissions, alongside a viable 648 kW rooftop solar PV implementation strategy.
  • MCCAC-Compliant Auditing — City of Fort Saskatchewan, AB
Delivered calibrated energy audits for a ~79,847 sq. ft. City Hall aligned to MCCAC guidelines, building the technical and financial case for net-zero operational emissions by 2050.
  • Digital Twin & Envelope Analysis — City of Whitehorse, YT
Used Matterport 3D capture and thermal imaging to create Digital Twins for three northern municipal facilities, enabling precise thermal bridging detection and LCCA-integrated envelope modeling.
  • Smart BAS Upgrades — GWLRA National Portfolio
Led design, tendering, and commissioning of Building Automation System upgrades across multi-building portfolios, improving equipment sequencing, operational efficiency, and occupant comfort.
  • Zero-Emission Transit Hub — Winnipeg Transit North Garage
As Owner’s Advocate and PM, we’re transforming a 130-year-old facility into a modern ZEB-ready transit hub — supporting 24 EV buses on day one, targeting LEED Silver, and maintaining full operational continuity throughout.
